Essential Oil Spotlight: Sage

Hi friends!

I’m back again with another “essential oil spotlight”! As I mentioned last week, sorting through the thousands of resources on essential oils can be super confusing… I actually waited almost a year before diving into the realm of these magical oils for this very reason! I had no idea what oils were best for me, what oils I was going to like, or even what benefits each oil had. If you’re on the edge of your first essential oil purchase, or even if you’re an essential oil pro, I hope these posts can provide you with enough information so that you feel confident in your knowledge and essential oil practice!

Today, I’m showcasing the wonderful essential oil sage because it has become one of my favorite aromas lately!

Here are some of the awesome benefits of sage essential oil:

  • Soothes mental fatigue and improves memory
  • Reduces and inhibits bacteria, fungus and microorganisms
  • Relieves constipation (laxative)
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Stimulates nervous system
  • Antioxidant
  • Improves metabolism
  • Helps with skin conditions like dermatitis, psoriasis, scabies and wounds, and overall skin health
  • Great for depression and grief
  • Helps muscle pain and stiffness, and rheumatism
  • Can be an insect repellent
  • Wonderful for PMS, menstrual support and menopause support
  • Great disinfectant and antiseptic

Here are a few ways you can use sage essential oil:

  • Add a few drops to your bath
  • Diffuse for aromatherapy purposes
  • Add to a massage oil
  • Rub onto areas that suffer from pain or discomfort
  • Create a compress for painful points
  • Make an emotional balance roll-on blend

In my opinion, one of the hardest parts about using essential oils is knowing what oils blend well together. Some scents work great together, while others clash, just like some benefits work well together, and others are counter-productive. Here are some oils that blend well with sage:

  • Black Pepper
  • Cardamom
  • Hyssop
  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Lemon Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary
  • Rosewood

Although essential oils can be so healing and grounding, there are definitely things to take into consideration before using each oil. Here are a list of precautions to think about before using sage essential oil:

  • Women who are pregnant should avoid the use of sage essential oil.
  • Sage essential oil is not safe for internal consumption.
  • Skin irritation may occur with the use of sage essential oil. Conduct a patch test before application.
  • Avoid sage essential oil if you have epilepsy.

If you’re looking for some recipe inspo, here are a few recipes I’ve created (both for my own blog and for the Simply Earth blog) that include sage essential oil. I’ll continue to update this list as I create more recipes that feature this amazing oil!

I hope I’ve helped you understand a bit more about sage essential oil! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me (my email is naturallyariblog@gmail.com).
