Guilt-Free, Secret Ingredient Brownies

I’m so excited to share this recipe with you (but let’s be honest, I’m always excited to share every recipe with you)! I’ve been wanting to share this recipe for the longest time but really wanted to make sure it was perfect! Today, I’m sharing a guilt-free, secret ingredient brownie recipe! This simple recipe is free of refined sugars, gluten and yucky additives. Did I mention that it’s also super easy to make??

This recipe also has a secret ingredient to give it a nutritional boost! Any guesses? It’s beet root powder! Yep! This recipe has all of the vitamins and minerals of the earthy red root veggie, but has all of the deliciousness of brownies! Your taste buds can hardly tell that there’s a veggie in this decadent dessert, but your body will surely thank you for it!


Begin by mixing all of the dry ingredients (coconut flour, cacao powder, beet root powder and salt) with a whisk. Once evenly combined with no clumps, add in the eggs, melted coconut oil, maple syrup and vanilla. Mix together by hand or with an electric mixer until the wet and dry ingredients are mixed well.

Chop up a bar of dark chocolate (I used a bar from Endorfin Foods), and gently fold into the brownie batter. The batter should be thick and not liquidy.

Lightly grease a 9×9 pan with coconut oil and evenly press the brownie batter into the pan. I added more chocolate chunks to the top after the batter was in the pan. Place the pan of brownie batter into the oven at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Test the center with a toothpick to make sure the brownies are baked through and remove from the oven. Allow to cool for 20-30 minutes. Cut and serve!

This batch of brownies tastes perfectly sweet and chocolatey, and I feel great knowing that I was able to sneak in some extra nutrients while still enjoying a sweet treat!
